Recycle Unwanted Bicycles at the Central Station on a City-wide Scale
The City of Wiesbaden's public order office (Ordnungsamt) has announced that it will be removing abandoned bicycles from Wiesbaden Central Station on November 10, 2022. The scrap bicycles, which have been left or abandoned around the station, pose a tripping hazard to passersby and block parking spaces needed by other cyclists.
The scrap bicycles will be sent for metal recycling after they have been removed. Employees of the waste management department will conduct the removal, targeting bike racks, pedestrian underpass railings, streetlight posts, and traffic sign posts.
Owners are urged to take action before the bicycles are considered for disposal. Yellow and orange stickers have been attached to the bicycles that appear abandoned, serving as a warning to their owners. The Wiesbaden Environmental Office is responsible for the scrap bicycles at Wiesbaden Central Station.
Photographs of the parked bicycles can be found on the redaktion@unsure website.de. Interestingly, in 2021, photographs of bicycles parked in unusual ways around the central station were also captured. The photograph above is courtesy of Volker Watschounek in 2022.
For those who wish to understand the legal text for disposal of property, it can be found here. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the removal of the bicycles, we recommend contacting the City of Wiesbaden's public order office (Ordnungsamt).
