Refurbished 30-hour Kitchen Clock from Ansonia Canada - Nearly Like New Condition

In an exciting discovery, an antique Ansonia clock, originally believed to be the "Canada" model from Ansonia's 1886 catalogue, has undergone a successful restoration. The clock was identified by reader JC, who recognised its listing in Ansonia's catalogue.

The clock, dating back to the late 19th century, boasts a well-preserved walnut case, with only a few missing top pieces that were found with the clock. The spade hands of the clock, essential for its accurate timekeeping, appear to be original and correct.

However, the movement of the clock was unfortunately in poor condition. After several days of meticulous work, seven bushings and two pivots were installed, and the movement and alarm mechanism were reinstalled into its case. The replacement of glue holding the top pieces was also necessary to ensure the clock's stability.

Despite these challenges, the clock is now running well and keeping good time. The tablet, though not original, is in decent condition, while the dial, likely replaced at some point, remains in the clock.

The Ansonia Clock Company, founded in 1851, was a prominent American clock manufacturer known for its wide range of clocks, including mantel, wall, kitchen, and parlor models. While Ansonia did not specifically market a "Canada" model, it's possible that some clocks were retailed or marketed with Canadian-themed names for the Canadian market.

Common issues with Ansonia clocks include movement wear, lubrication needs, and case deterioration. Collectors should be careful to distinguish between American Ansonia clocks and genuine Canadian clockmakers when researching or purchasing.

This restored Ansonia clock serves as a testament to the enduring charm and craftsmanship of antique clocks, reminding us of the rich history of clockmaking in North America.

The restored Ansonia clock, a vintage timepiece from the late 19th century, is a valuable addition to any home-and-garden lifestyle, showcasing the charm and craftsmanship of the past in a modern setting. With its well-preserved walnut case and historical significance as a potential Canadian model, it adds an air of sophistication and antiquity to the home, reflecting the rich history of clockmaking in North America.
