Singer Vineet Singh Hukmani shares sentiments about adopting Pune as his home, composing a tune that encapsulates the city: Pune holds a special place in my heart, it feels like home.
Singer Vineet Singh Hukmani Embraces Pune as His New Home
After a decade living in Delhi, musician Vineet Singh Hukmani found himself at home in Pune, a city he moved to ten months ago. The prominent Punjab-born singer-songwriter expresses his affection for his new city in his latest bilingual hit, "My New Home Pune."
Upon his relocation, Hukmani explains that he felt drawn to Pune for its ideal size, as it enables easy accessibility to numerous creative avenues, such as music, art, and the culinary scene. He has found the city to have a unique blend of cosmopolitan and traditional culture, where its inhabitants harmoniously balance the two. In addition, Pune's proximity to Mumbai and Dubai, where Hukmani executes most of his production work, is an added advantage.
Hukmani points out that he was initially inspired to create "My New Home Pune" as an expression of gratitude towards the city's warm welcome he received. For the singer, home is where his creativity flourishes and where the people around him share in that sentiment. The lyrics depict the warmth and affection for his new chapter as a Punekar.
Being in his first year in Pune, the upcoming monsoon season will be Hukmani's inaugural Maharashtra monsoon. He looks forward to the anticipated green scenery and extraordinary air quality as he composes new melodies. He also plans to embark on a road trip soon to further soak in the city's beauty.
Comparing the music scenes of Pune and Delhi, Hukmani expresses that the former allows him creative flexibility while still accepting his unique approach as an artist. In contrast, Delhi, though a thriving hub for various music genres, can be dominating with its Punjabi and Sufi music culture. Hukmani feels he is more readily accepted as an English/Hindi singer-songwriter in Pune and notes that the city is open to a broader range of global genres.
While Hukmani sometimes misses the culinary delights of Delhi, his new companions in Pune ensure he is well-fed. He says his heart carries the cherished memories of his old home, but the novel experiences in Pune allow him to grow more confident in his new life.
