Solar-Powered Wood Drying System Launched by Greenhill Forge

A British innovator, Greenhill Forge, has created a portable wood-drying system powered by the sun. The device, designed for small-scale wood-burning stoves and fireplaces, is mobile and efficient, even on cloudy days.

The system, named Holzdry, consists of an insulated box that can house an IBC container, holding approximately 1.5 m³ of wood. At its core are two standard solar modules that power a heating element and fan. These components work together to dry wood, with the fan circulating warm air and the heating element providing the necessary heat.

The system is equipped with a circuit breaker for safety. It's designed to be mobile, allowing users to position it for optimal sunlight or move it to the wood pile. Initial tests show the temperature inside the box is about 10°C higher than the outside temperature, demonstrating its effectiveness.

Greenhill Forge is currently developing a larger version of the Holzdry system, capable of accommodating two or three IBC containers. This expansion will allow for more significant wood-drying capacity.

The Holzdry system, invented by Greenhill Forge, offers a sustainable and efficient solution for drying wood. Its mobility and solar power make it an attractive option for users concerned about both environmental impact and convenience. With plans to expand its capacity, the system promises to meet a range of wood-drying needs.
