Solingen welcomes back the Luminous Night: a stunning nocturnal event

Prepare for a magical evening as Solingen's Mitte comes alive with the Lichternacht (Paths of Light) city festival on September 20, 2025, from 5 PM to midnight. This unique event, running between Clemenskirche and Lutherkirche, promises a luminous atmosphere filled with spontaneous discoveries, light installations, and interactive elements[1].

Visitors can immerse themselves in a world of illuminations and creative light displays, including stehlamps (floor lamps), mandalas, and lighting of lantern bags. A special highlight will be the mandala on the Fronhof, which will be designed together by the citizens, offering a breathtaking view from the church towers[1].

In addition to the regular offerings, secret show acts in collaboration with the Gläserne Werkstatt will provide excitement. The timing and locations of these acts are kept secret to avoid crowds and ensure a magical experience[1].

Many shops, restaurants, clubs, and institutions will illuminate their storefronts, contributing to an overall glowing cityscape. The event also offers late-night shopping opportunities, allowing visitors to shop while basking in the festival's ambiance[1].

The Lichternacht is more than just a festival; it's a collaborative, participatory experience. Participants can become part of the light by donating lamps, designing mandalas, or purchasing light bags. Old or unused standing lamps can be dropped off at the Atelier and workshop Rahmenkunst at Alexander-Coppel-Straße 48[1].

The three major city churches of the inner city will serve as symbolic beacons, marking paths that stretch all the way to the Südpark. The event is supported by the Gerd-Kaymer-Bürgerstiftung with funding of 24,000 euros[1].

Strolling through the city between 5 PM and 10 PM allows visitors to experience light art, enjoy small indoor events such as concerts, readings, exhibitions, and guided tours[1]. Paper lanterns and light bags are available for participation for one euro, with the proceeds going to the Burgholz children's hospice[1].

The organizers, Lutherkirchen-Bauverein and MitteSchmiede, are thrilled about the wide range of offerings that can be presented during the event. Their goal is to strengthen community, revitalize the inner city, and create an evening full of unforgettable moments[1]. For more details, including an interactive map of activities, visitors are directed to the official event website closer to the date[1].

Experience a unique blend of culture and creativity at the Lichternacht festival, where lifestyle, fashion-and-beauty, home-and-garden intertwine with spectacular light displays. Donate standing lamps, design mandalas, or purchase light bags to become part of the event, creating a coherent aesthetic that illuminates the cityscape and complements the glowing storefronts of shops, restaurants, clubs, and institutions.
