Evening Phone Ban Helps Teenagers Sleep Better - Swiss Study: No Bedtime Phones Means More Sleep for Teens
A Swiss study published in 'Discover Public Health' has found that teens who are not allowed to use their iPhones in their bedrooms overnight sleep more. The study, although not directly attributing authors or institutions, highlights the impact of evening iPhone use restrictions on teenagers' sleep duration.
The study found that teens who had their iPhone use restricted in the evening slept 40 minutes longer than those without restrictions. This suggests that evening iPhone use significantly impacts sleep duration. Interestingly, other restrictions such as daily screen time limits or fixed bedtimes did not show a significant impact on sleep duration.
Kevin Mammeri, the study's author, emphasised the crucial role parents play in their children's health and success. He advised establishing rules before children turn 15, as it becomes challenging to correct bad habits afterwards.
The Swiss study underscores the importance of evening iPhone restrictions for improving teenagers' sleep duration. Parents are urged to implement these rules early to positively influence their children's health and success.
