The refurbishment of the Homage Tower and the Mosaic Hall within the Alcázar of the Christian Kings has now surpassed 60% completion.
Alcazar of the Christian Kings Restoration: Progress Update
The Alcazar of the Christian Kings in Córdoba, a key historical monument in the city, is currently undergoing a significant restoration project. The work, which began in October 2024, is aimed at better understanding the role of the Alcazar in Córdoba's historical evolution, as stated by the city's mayor, José María Bellido.
The restoration project includes various aspects such as emptying, installing cabling, laying, placing lighting fixtures, cleaning, and consolidating and biociding the walls of the spaces previously open to visitors. The roof over the Mosaic Hall is being restored, and work is underway to ensure the required structural safety for the wooden structure of the Mosaic Hall. Reinforcements of the structure will be followed by a new system of straps and boarding, and the roof will be completed with tiles.
The restoration work on the Tower of Homage and the roof of the Mosaic Hall is currently at 62% completion. Trenches have been dug outside to connect the power supply from the municipal transformation center located in Real Caballerizas for the electrical installation renovation. The company Rahi SL has been awarded the electrical installation renovation project for 1.5 million euros and a 21-month execution period, expected to be completed by summer 2026.
The Municipal Urban Planning Management is overseeing the restoration project, and the work is being carried out by the company Rehabitec. The renovation of electrical installations throughout the Alcazar de los Reyes Cristianos building is ongoing.
Despite the ongoing restoration, the Alcazar remains open to visitors, with guided tours including the Alcazar among the main monuments to visit in Córdoba. The Tower of Homage remains part of the Alcazar's four-tower fortress layout, and the Mosaic Hall (part of the richly decorated interiors) presumably remains visible to visitors during tours.
However, no publicly available recent information on the restoration of the Tower of Homage or the Mosaic Hall specifically has been reported as of mid-2025. For the very latest status on restoration work, contacting the official Córdoba tourism office or the Alcazar administration would be advisable.
The restoration project has a budget of 308,910.19 euros, and the aim is to allow visitors to continue visiting in the same spaces as before the closure, but with renovated installations, upon the project's completion.
