Thrilled tourists continue their strolls amidst the Saarbrücken forest's summer scorcher
Article Title: A Shaded and Historically Rich Hike Through Geislauterner Wald
On a day when the temperature reached nearly 30 degrees Celsius, the Turngau Saarbrucken (TGS) led a successful hike through the Geislauterner Wald in the Warndt. The hike, originally planned to include a longer and a shorter route, was shortened due to the high temperatures, with participants embarking on a single 4.6-kilometer route.
The hike began in the dense old tree stand of the Geislauterner Mixed Forest, which provided pleasant conditions due to its shade and lack of significant climbs. Along the route, benches were set up for short breaks and conversations in the shade, making the journey even more enjoyable.
One of the special goals of the hike was the Regina Chapel, built in 1950 by former soldiers from Völklingen, Fürstenhausen, and Wehrden as a thank you to the Mother of God Regina for surviving World War II. The chapel, located on a steep hill, was a sight to behold, and some daring participants even climbed the hill to see the chapel from the inside.
Another historical landmark visited during the hike was the Geislautern Memorial, a monument in memory of the fallen of World War I and II. The hike concluded at the Weiher, where the participants enjoyed a well-deserved meal at the restaurant La Taverne.
Sylvia Spies from TV Geislautern led the hike, taking over at short notice due to the absence of the regular hike leader. She expressed her gratitude for the participation of hiking enthusiasts, praising the group for their enthusiasm and camaraderie throughout the hike.
The Völklingen-Ludweiler hike in the Geislauterner Wald includes visiting several historical landmarks such as the Geislautern Memorial and the Regina Chapel. For more detailed information on these two landmarks, consulting local hiking guides or official tourism resources related to Geislauterner Wald and Völklingen-Ludweiler hiking trails will likely offer comprehensive historical background and practical visitor details.
The Turngau Saarbrucken continues its successful series of joint hiking offers, demonstrating that movement in nature can be enjoyable at high temperatures. The hike mainly took place on wide forest paths and narrow, shady trails, making it an accessible and enjoyable experience for all participants. The hike ended in a pleasant atmosphere, with participants reviewing their experience and looking forward to the next event.
