Transformed once dilapidated wood-framed house into a breathtaking coastal abode, under the artistic owner's skillful supervision.
The interior renovation of a clapboard house on the Isle of Wight, originally built in 2008, has undergone a remarkable transformation, turning a once rundown American-style property into a stunning seaside Hamptons-style home.
### Exterior Transformation
The original wooden deck, essential for access and balance due to the house and garden being on a slope, was rotten and completely dismantled. In its place, durable Millboard boards were installed, offering non-slip qualities ideal for a seaside environment. Careful attention was given to achieving the right gradient, balance, and proportions to harmonize the house with its sloping garden setting.
### New Interior Layout
Several internal walls were knocked down to create a more open and flowing layout, resulting in a second sitting room/snug area and a remodeled kitchen/dining room. The ground floor’s wooden flooring was removed and upgraded to Woodpecker laminate flooring with underfloor heating, enhancing comfort and modernity. The entire kitchen was completely replaced, and the house was fully redecorated. The interior layout was designed with an artist’s eye for proportion and organic flow, collaborating with a local builder team and an interior design expert.
### Artistic Decor
The owner, artist Bridget Lansley, infused the home with character and style that reflect her creative sensibility. The decor merges the classic Hamptons style with a seaside theme, leveraging the house’s superb views over Bembridge harbour and mainland. One of Bridget's artworks complements the fresh, energizing feel in the guest bedroom, while the master bedroom is a mix of orange, blue, and natural shades. A fish motif cushion adds a playful marine touch to the master bedroom, and coastal references, such as blue and white striped fabrics, starfish motifs on the lampshades, a metal fish ornament, and shades of ocean blue, can be found throughout the house.
This project took over a year to complete, emphasizing quality and aesthetics throughout. The house, now located on the Isle of Wight and overlooking Bembridge, provides views of the harbor and mainland, making it an idyllic seaside retreat.
Editor Andrea Childs oversees the project, with input from interiors and lifestyle journalist Sara Emslie, author of two books on interior design and stylist for commercial clients. Sara Emslie, who resides in Richmond, London, enjoys traveling and producing features for home interest magazines.
The interior design collaboration between local builders, an interior design expert, and artist Bridget Lansley transformed the clapboard house into a stunning Hamptons-style home, aligning perfectly with the home-improvement and home-and-garden lifestyle aesthetics. The redecoration, incorporating a seaside theme and Bridget's unique artistic sensibility, merges effortlessly with the lifestyle and interior-design aspects of the project, making the house a picturesque blend of art, lifestyle, and design.
