transformed pharmacy now serves as community hub in Lübz
In the heart of Luebeck's city center, an empty storefront has been transformed into a vibrant hub of community engagement. The Elde-Theke, a project supported by the city administration, recently hosted an event that brought together locals for an evening of sewing pillows, enjoying local food and drinks, and sharing ideas for the premises on Mühlenstraße.
Martina Dresselt, founder and leader of the Structural Development Measure (SEM) in Luebeck, was present at the event. She expressed her pleasure with the turnout, as well as her commitment to securing funding and organizing volunteer support to continue the Elde-Theke project.
The Elde-Theke is more than just a community space; it's a platform for ideas. The 'Idea Bar', a wooden wagon, invites visitors to submit their suggestions for the premises. The 'Idea Bar' has slots with main themes like "Health/Nourishment", "Leisure/Mobility", "Digital World", and "Building/Living". Suggestions can also be sent by email to [email protected].
Leon Zeug, a musician, provided background music for the event with an acoustic guitar and Cajon, adding to the warm and inviting atmosphere.
The Elde-Theke project aims to be a place for everyone in the community. Sebastian Krohn, chairman of the Luebeck Chamber of Commerce, suggested setting up vending machines in the front area of the Elde-Theke, offering local products for sale around the clock. This would ensure the Elde-Theke remains active and accessible, even when events aren't taking place.
The hope is that the Elde-Theke will continue to be well-received and could potentially host cozy coffee and cake events on Sundays. Renting the Elde-Theke space for events or family gatherings is also being considered.
Luebeck's mayor Astrid Becker praised the Elde-Theke event for promoting civic engagement and social cohesion. The Elde-Theke project is seen as an effort to revitalize an empty storefront in Luebeck's city center, addressing the concern of vacancies in the area.
The Elde-Apotheke in Luebeck's city center also hosted an open door day on the same day, adding to the community spirit in the city.
Martina Dresselt, Sebastian Krohn, and his wife Anja were among those pleased with the turnout at the Elde-Theke event. Dresselt, who feels at home in Luebeck, is passionate about making a difference in the city. She has been working tirelessly to ensure the Elde-Theke project continues to thrive.
The SEM, founded by Martina Dresselt in 2023, is currently applying for funding from "Democracy Lives" to continue the Elde-Theke project. With the support of the city administration, the community, and local businesses, the Elde-Theke promises to be a valuable addition to Luebeck's city center.
