UK's primary waste management company grants financing to Ruthin Repair Café
Enfinium Awards Funding to Ruthin Repair Cafe in North Wales
Enfinium, the UK's largest waste operator, has awarded funding to Ruthin Repair Cafe, a community-based organisation in North Wales, to support their efforts in reducing waste and saving money for local families.
Located in Ruthin, the Repair Cafe has been repairing household goods for local residents since February 2020. The free service operates from 10AM to 3PM and is open to all.
The funding will be used for first aid training, tool sharpening classes, and PAT safety-testing certification for electrical item repairs. This will not only help in repairing more items but also provide valuable training to volunteers.
The Repair Cafe's Support Fund, launched by Enfinium in March 2024, currently stands at £60,000. Each Repair Cafe can apply for funding of up to £1,500 per annum from the Fund. Applications for funding can be made by Repair Cafe's before 31 May 2024.
Anne Lewis, the organizer of Ruthin Repair Cafe, has expressed enthusiasm about being awarded the funding from Enfinium. "We are thrilled to receive this support from Enfinium. It will help us continue our mission of reducing waste and helping local families repair their broken items," she said.
Enfinium's CEO, Mike Maudsley, stated that repairing broken items is critical for reducing waste, lowering consumption, and decreasing carbon emissions. "We are proud to support the work of Ruthin Repair Cafe and other Repair Cafe's across the UK. By repairing items rather than throwing them away, we can make a significant impact on waste reduction and carbon emissions," he added.
Since its inception, Ruthin Repair Cafe has helped fix 963 items across 31 Repair Cafe events, with the most common repairs being electricals and sewing repairs. The Repair Cafe takes place on the first Saturday of every month at the Naylor Leyland Centre in Ruthin, North Wales.
