The Dresden Zoo is buzzing with excitement as a new koala joey, the second child of the female koala Eerin, has made its debut. The zoo announced the joyful news in May 2025, although the exact birth date remains undisclosed in the current sources.

The birth was not immediately noticeable to keepers, but was indicated by a typical mucus trail at the pouch opening. It was Olaf Lohnitz, a keeper at the Dresden Zoo, who witnessed the koala birth from almost the visitor's side on November 18th, 2024.

The young koala's name hasn't been announced yet, but what is clear is that it is now visible to visitors in the enclosure. The little one can be seen crawling around outside the pouch, allowing vets and keepers a closer look.

The Dresden Zoo is proud of its koala offspring, stating that every animal is needed to strengthen the population. The zoo's statement also emphasized the professional care that its animals receive.

In a separate development, another female koala named Mandie, from Zoo Leipzig, was transferred to Dresden Zoo in late July 2025 for breeding purposes with the male koala Mullaya. However, any pregnancy from this pairing could only be confirmed three to four months later, so no offspring has resulted from that pairing as of early August 2025.

As of now, there are four koalas to see at the Dresden Zoo, including the new joey. The zoo continues to provide a safe and nurturing environment for its koalas, hoping for more additions to its family in the future.

The young koala, being a new addition to the Dresden Zoo, is providing visitors with a chance to observe a vibrant piece of its home-and-garden set-up, specifically the lifestyle of a native Australian creature. In preparation for potential future offspring, a female koala named Mandie was recently transferred from Zoo Leipzig, aiming to contribute to the enrichment and growth of the Dresden Zoo's koala lifestyle and home-and-garden sanctuary.
