Life's a Joint Venture: Jana Ina and Giovanni Zarrella's Two Decades of Togetherness
A group boasting two decades of expertise in their field. - United for two decades, we've fostered a close-knit camaraderie.
20 years, two teenagers, two bustling schedules - yet for Jana Ina (48) and Giovanni Zarrella (47), they've never lost sight of each other. "We're each other's biggest fans. There's no competition, just support," Jana Ina enthuses during a shoot for energy provider Eon at the testing lab in Essen.
Even amidst all the harmony, their family life is far from lax. Shows, broadcasts, school - their calendars are crammed. So, how do they manage to stay on top of it all? "We've got a shared family calendar - everything goes in there, even the kids' appointments. And we deliberately block out certain days for ourselves," says the presenter. Family always comes first: "We want to be there for our children's special moments. Sometimes, we might have a sleep deficit, but we can catch up on sleep later."
Celebrating Two Decades: Anniversary Plans Afoot
August marks their 20th wedding anniversary, but concrete plans are yet to be formulated. No surprises there, as the Zarrellas tend to make decisions on the fly. "We're living day by day right now. But we'll figure it out," Jana Ina chuckles.
Despite living much of their lives under public scrutiny, Jana Ina and Giovanni know exactly where the boundaries between private and professional lie. "I share quite a bit of our daily life on Instagram, even making jokes about parenting teenagers. But the kids are off-limits - and that's respected."
Their easy-going approach is evident when they're out shopping or at the bakery. "People talk to us like friends or neighbors. My husband chats with every baker, sings a tune, has a chat - as long as people are nice, we are too. Then, everything's cool."
A Dynamic Duo in Energy Conservation
Their teamwork isn't limited to child-rearing and scheduling. They're also a harmonious duo when it comes to energy efficiency. Giovanni keeps an eye on the smart tariffs so Jana can charge her electric vehicle flexibly when cheapest. Jana's the one who ensures the lights are turned off or devices are unplugged when not in use.
The children join in too. "They'll often say, 'Hey, it's still bright, turn off the light'," Jana Ina informs during the video shoot about the energy transition, which she filmed with Eon Germany CEO Filip Thon.
Sustainability is Their Daily Mantra
Born in Brazil, Jana Ina regards sustainability as an integral part of family life. Switching from a hybrid to a fully electric vehicle was the first step; installing solar panels is next. "We saw it at a neighbor's and said, 'That looks good!'" she reports. "On our walks, I looked up some info. If I can charge my electric vehicle at home through solar panels, that's fantastic."
Knowing why her vehicle charges at night instead of immediately makes her feel a bit proud. "I thought my charging box was broken at first. But now I know - I have a flexible tariff. The car charges at night when electricity demand is lower - better for the environment and my wallet."
