Plunging Headfirst into the Gritty, Creative World of Magdeburg's Street Art with Uni Students

Magdeburg, here we go - jumping right into the deep end with a group of students from the University of Applied Sciences Magdeburg-Stendal. From June 10, they've moved their classroom to the streets, embarking on a captivating odyssey through the urban jungle. Their destination? None other than the art that adorns the concrete canvases of city walls - street art, baby!

Starting off with a simple appreciation for the artistic, these young minds have dissected the silent, hidden narratives woven within street art like documentary detectives. Armed with critical analysis, they've managed to shed a new light on this evocative art form, offering insights from a social worker's perspective. The findings? Street art ain't just about beautifying public spaces or causing a ruckus - it's a vessel for stories, an arena for discussing social and cultural issues.

Get ready to soak it all in at their exhibition. From June 10 to September 30, 2025, you'll find their research on display at the library of the University of Applied Sciences Magdeburg-Stendal, inviting you to join them in their exploration. Prof. Dr. Christoph Damm leads this enlightening project.

[Bonus info: Interestingly, the street art show isn’t the only creative spectacle brewing at the University of Applied Sciences Magdeburg-Stendal. In January 2025, students from the Industrial Design department showcased their semester projects in an exhibition, featuring an array of interactive installations, creative concepts, and models at Campus Magdeburg, Haus 9 (schauwerk). The event ran from 14:00 on both January 30 and 31.]

The students' captivating exploration of street art has expanded beyond just admiration, delving into home-and-garden elements by showcasing their findings at the library, a homey space, from June 10 to September 30, 2025. Despite prevalent notions, street art is no mere beautifier of public spaces; it serves as a lifestyle platform, addressing diverse social and cultural issues, much like a flourishing garden full of tales waiting to be shared.
