Unveiled Records of Diverse Forms and Sounds: Artists constantly stretch the boundaries of creativity to engross us visually and audibly. Nevertheless, this exploration doesn't cease. Below, we present some less conventional types of records, often issued in limited or experimental productions.

Unusual Vinyl Record Offerings: Ice Slices, Blood Samples, and More

Going broader than your typical runs of vinyl, these eccentric records go the extra mile to entertain and surprise! From icy runs to liquid-filled spins, we've gathered a few unique record types that push the boundaries of audio artistry.

1. Ice Records – Sent to a select few fans and the press, 'Shout out Louds' released Blue Ice records in 2012, made of ice! Consisting of a record mould, distilled water, and instructions, these cool records offered an interesting audio experience – albeit, quality may suffer due to their melting nature. The innovative design challenged manufacturers to perfect the silicon mould and maintain an aesthetically pleasing ice structure.

2. Eulerian Circles – Hailing from the mathematical world, inspired by Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler, these records have multiple intertwining groove circles and holes. Chiefly produced by vinyl artist Michael Dixon, they are largely beleaguered by exclusivity – with many releases in editions of 20 or less. His label, PIAPTK, is one of few companies exploring vinyl's artistic potential and environmental sustainability. Case in point: their release titled 'King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard - Thirty-Six Seconds From Polygondwanaland That Go On Forever' is a 7" Eulerian disc with 20, 1.8-second locked grooves (10 per side), made one at a time using upcycled materials.

3. Liquid-Filled Records – Known for their visually captivating aspect, these records pose a challenge in preventing leakage and evaporation. They have been developed by a handful of pioneers in recent years, but early attempts, like the 1978 prototype for the 'The Black Hole' soundtrack, remained unsuccessful. Jack White released one in 2012, yet it also succumbed to liquid evaporation. However, its scarcity still makes it a valuable find among collectors – Although finding a non-evaporated copy might prove challenging!

4. Blood-Filled Records – Though not the first (Jack White released a liquid-filled record in 2012), The Flaming Lips' blood-filled records, made with the artists' own blood, appealed to art enthusiasts and charitable donors alike. With only 10 copies sold for $2500 each in 2012, these unique records are now worth a staggering $12,000.
