The art scene in Düsseldorf, Germany got a sugar rush when the Hetjens - German Ceramics Museum unveiled a new sculpture on Friday (23.6.). Artist Anke Eilergerhard's creation, dubbed "Between Heaven & Earth," is more than just eye candy—it's the kickoff to a sweet fundraising campaign.

"Aber bitte mit Sahne" isn't just the title of a classic tune by Udo Jürgens—it's a passion, particularly amongst women, known as coffee klatches. It sounds fitting that a ceramics museum would showcase more than ceramics—zipping coffee and cake right to your table. And with the installation of Eilergerhard's sculpture, it's about to become a reality.

Eilergerhard's steel gate-topped sculpture features an aluminum cream cap, igniting the fundraising campaign, "Aber bitte mit Sahne!" The goal is to bring a café experience to Hetjens, so visitors can savor their favorite pottery creations with a steaming cup of Joe. The current pottery workshop will then relocate to an adjoining building, expanding course offerings, and the entrance will be shifted back to the chestnut courtyard, repurposing the current entrance into an event space. Mayor Clara Gerlach and Mayor Josef Hinkel are nose-deep in the "Aber bitte mit Sahne!" campaign as enthusiastic patrons.

The exhibition "Anke Eilergerhard: Dolcissima" has been on display at Hetjens for a few days, giving guests a taste of Wuppertal-born Eilergerhard's inspiration—the Bergisch coffee table and social gatherings over coffee and cake. The sculptor's creations, which feature optically curved cake stands as female sculptures, fit the museum café concept like a charm.

While the campaign might be local, the whipped cream is going global—Eilergerhard's sculpture is making waves in the ceramics and art communities, as well as churning up excitement for the ultimate museum café experience. So, grab your wallets, folks—it's time to indulge!

The "Aber bitte mit Sahne!" fundraising campaign aims to bring a café experience to the Hetjens - German Ceramics Museum, redefining the museum's lifestyle by offering food-and-drink options that complement home-and-garden inspired pottery creations. The ultimate goal is to create an immersive café experience for visitors, allowing them to savor their favorite coffee and cake while admiring Anke Eilergerhard's art pieces.
