Upper Austria's Art Collection Welcomes New Leader: Mag.a Dr.in Maria Reitter-Kollmann
Upper Austria's state art collection, set to welcome a new leader, will see Mag.a Dr.in Maria Reitter-Kollmann take the helm from November 3, 2025, following the retirement of her predecessor, Anneliese Geyer, on September 30, 2025. Reitter-Kollmann, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to the role, holds a doctorate in art history from the Catholic Private University Linz. Her dissertation, a critical revision of the term 'Art Brut' and an art scientific localization of the art of people with disabilities, showcases her deep understanding and passion for the field. She has honed her skills in various roles, including leading the marketing and event management of Caritas OO, curating the gallery 'Raum der Mitte', and working as a freelance curator on contemporary art, symposia, art talks, and exhibitions. Selected from a pool of nine candidates following a hearing process, her appointment comes after the retirement of Franz Grabner, who previously held the position. Maria Reitter-Kollmann's appointment signals a new chapter for Upper Austria's state art collection, with her extensive background in art history, curation, and management positioning her well to lead the collection into the future. Her tenure begins on November 3, 2025.
