Vibrant Henri Matisse Pottery Collection Transforms into Essential Accessory for Your Summer Soirees

In the heart of Asheville, North Carolina, East Fork Pottery Studio, co-founded by Alex Matisse, great-grandson of the renowned French painter Henri Matisse, has recently unveiled a special collection called the Matisse Collection. This collection is a joyful assortment of tabletop essentials that beautifully blends artistry with everyday use, bridging the gap between fine art and functional pottery.

After feeling the creative pressure of his family's legacy, Alex Matisse needed a fresh start. In 2009, he moved to a former tobacco farm in North Carolina and established East Fork Pottery Studio. Over the last 16 years, the studio has grown into a successful business, offering a wide range of homeware products including kitchen essentials, candles, and glassware.

The Matisse Collection is a personal and creative homage to Henri Matisse’s legacy. It features designs inspired by the artist's iconic paper cutout works, such as 'La Perruche et la sirène', 'Bédouine au grand voile (1947)', 'Nadia au regard sérieux (1948)', and 'Le Platane (1951)'. The collection includes a round serving platter with a delicate line-drawing of a plane tree, as well as a set of dinner plates printed with the artist's most recognizable cutouts, a series of reclining figures titled 'Nu Bleu (1952)'.

The release of this collection is particularly significant as Henri Matisse's oeuvre entered the public domain in the U.S. this year. Alex Matisse was able to collaborate with his family's estate and foundation, Héritiers Matisse, to ensure the East Fork line was faithful to the artist's originals.

East Fork Pottery Studio has over 100 employees in its Asheville headquarters. The studio started with a line of humble mugs and bowls in earthy colors like 'panna cotta' and 'morel'. The Matisse Collection is the beautiful culmination of a process where East Fork Pottery Studio has stood firmly on its own for many years, and the weight of that legacy has lightened enough to celebrate and honor it.

Alex Matisse, along with his business partner John Vigeland and his wife Connie, has grown East Fork Pottery Studio into a company known for its artisan handmade ceramics. The Matisse Collection exemplifies this philosophy by incorporating elements of Henri Matisse's iconic cutout artwork into beautifully crafted ceramics, making it not only a utilitarian product but also a piece of art for collectors and design enthusiasts alike.

To complement the decorative items in the Matisse Collection, East Fork Pottery Studio has launched a new brilliant azure colorway, La Sirène. This vibrant addition adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to the already stunning collection.

The Matisse Collection is a testament to Alex Matisse's dedication to honoring his great-grandfather's legacy while creating a unique and beautiful product line. It is a joyful celebration of Henri Matisse's iconic works and a tribute to the enduring power of art to inspire and transform.

The Matisse Collection, a creative homage by Alex Matisse, beautifully blends fashion-and-beauty and home-and-garden interiors, as it offers a stylish assortment of tabletop essentials inspired by Henri Matisse's iconic cutout works. After establishing East Fork Pottery Studio, Alex Matisse has grown the business to include a wide range of homeware products, now including the Matisse Collection, a testament to his dedication to his great-grandfather's legacy and a celebration of the enduring power of art.
