It's time to rejoice, fellow mecha anime enthusiasts, for Bandai Spirits is set to honor the epic legacy of Sunrise with a brand new toy line. Gather 'round as we delve into the exciting world of Sunrise Spirits, headed by Yoshinari Kimura, Assistant Manager on the Robot Product Planning Team at Bandai Spirits!
With the surge of Sunrise mecha anime popularity across the globe, Kimura aimed to ensure that Western fans didn't miss out on the action. The vision? An accessible solution for fans to purchase Sunrise merchandise, ultimately creating an engaging three-dimensional portal for both veterans and newbies alike.
"After analyzing the supply-demand balance, we decided to sell products through our own stores and an official online shop. And voilà! - Sunrise Spirits was born. Our mission: to serve as an entry point for Sunrise newbies and maintain our lineup as a permanent platform for those with fond memories," Kimura explained.
The brand has already expanded its presence to eight stores in Japan and another eight official Tamashii Nations store locations worldwide, including New York City!
The Sunrise Spirits brand has a mountain to climb, considering the depth and breadth of Sunrise mecha anime. But fear not, for they're well on their way to covering some major titles.
"Currently, we offer seven products, including five from '80s series such as 'Dunbine,' 'Dougram,' and 'Xabungle,' as well as 'Zegapain' from the 2000s. We've also updated each product's key visuals to appeal to a wider audience. In 2025, we'll add the Robot Spirits Villkiss from 'Cross Ange' to our lineup, and we plan to cater to various age groups while reviewing the status of existing items," revealed Kimura.
