In the heart of Worcester, Massachusetts, the College of the Holy Cross is gearing up for an exciting semester. The Alternate College Theatre (ACT) is preparing to present the show "At The Wedding" written by Bryna Turner, with performances taking place in The Pit on November 21, 23, 24, 25, and 27 at 7:30 PM, and matinees on some days. The show will be directed by Ben Lepper '25, who also serves as the Editor-In-Chief of The Spire, Holy Cross's flagship campus newspaper since 1925.

However, a growing number of students are finding it challenging to navigate the campus due to limited parking options. Parking on campus is currently inadequate, with spots located behind the Prior Performing Arts Center, outside the Hart Center, a small portion of the hill behind Williams, and on levels 1 and 2 of the parking garage. Visitors can park anywhere without fear of a ticket, but students risk a ticket for parking in non-student parking areas.

The situation has led to a heated debate among students, with Julia Maher '23 writing an opinion piece titled "False Hope" in the Opinions section. Published on Aug. 7, 2020, the piece discusses the housing assignments for the fall semester of 2020 and questions whether the school is underestimating the number of students bringing cars to campus. Maher suggests that more student parking could be made available, especially during late hours, to alleviate the strain on the limited parking spots.

The issue of student parking is not a new one for colleges like Holy Cross. Limited space on campus, high student enrollment, and prioritization of parking for staff and faculty often lead to inadequate parking for students. Common solutions proposed at colleges facing such issues include expanding parking lots or garages, implementing shuttle services from remote lots, encouraging carpooling, or enhancing public transportation options.

As the college enters its centennial publication year in 2025, it remains to be seen whether Holy Cross will address the parking issue and, by extension, other problems on campus. In the meantime, students continue to face the challenge of finding a parking spot, adding an extra layer of complexity to their college experience as they reclaim their traditional, on-campus college life.
