Wim Wenders rises early today.
In a recent revelation, renowned filmmaker Wim Wenders has shared that he has changed his sleep schedule, becoming a morning person. Known for his acclaimed works such as "Buena Vista Social Club," "Paris, Texas," and "Wings of Desire," Wenders resides near Berlin, providing him a wide view of the landscape that he now enjoys as the day begins.
This change in Wenders' sleep pattern is a personal choice, and he has expressed his fondness for the way the world looks in the mornings. He shared this information with the German Press Agency, a testament to his openness and connection with his fans.
To honour Wenders' contributions to cinema and his broader artistic vision, a large exhibition titled "The Art of Seeing" is being hosted by the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn. The exhibition, also referred to as "W.I.M.: The Art of Seeing," runs from August 1, 2025, to January 11, 2026, and is a comprehensive tribute to Wenders, celebrated on the occasion of his 80th birthday, which falls on August 14.
The exhibition offers a deep and immersive experience for visitors, showcasing Wenders' creative works in various forms. The highlight is a large, immersive cinematographic installation that utilizes state-of-the-art image and sound technology, allowing visitors to deeply engage with Wenders' visual world and cinematic achievements.
In addition to this, the exhibition includes Wenders' photographs, collages, drawings, and 'electronic paintings'—digitally retouched video images from films like Until the End of the World (1991). A selection of Wenders' Polaroids offers insights into his compositional skills and fascination with landscapes and solitude. These are displayed alongside storyboards, film stills, and sketches.
Wim Wenders himself guides visitors through the exhibition via an audio walk, sharing background stories and insights into his work. The exhibition also explores Wenders' inspirations from visual arts and music, as well as his collaborations on films such as Pina (2011) and Anselm (2023).
Each season offers a unique view, according to Wenders, and this exhibition not only honours his contributions to cinema but also delves into his broader artistic vision, making it a deeply personal and immersive experience for visitors. The exhibition tells the story of Wim Wenders' career, from his early days to his current works, providing a comprehensive overview of his journey as an artist.
Wim Wenders, inspired by his morning landscape views, has transformed his lifestyle, embracing an outdoor-living approach that is reflected in his home-and-garden. His extensive artistic vision encompasses photography, collages, drawings, electronic paintings, and cinematic installations, all on display at the "The Art of Seeing" exhibition.
