Design Council Hosts Three-Part Webinar Series on Design Codes in October 2024
The Design Council is set to host a series of three webinars in October 2024, aimed at addressing the issues of abandoned buildings in cities and unfinished developments in England. These free online events, scheduled from the 8th to the 22nd of October, are part of the Design Code Pathfinder Programme, an initiative by the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government in partnership with the Design Council.
The specific topics to be covered in these webinars are yet to be detailed, but they are expected to delve into implementing design codes in local planning, improving design quality in new developments, using design review charters to guide place-making, and enhancing community involvement in design processes, among others. The webinars will also include Q&A sessions after the presentations, allowing participants to engage with the speakers and gain further insights.
Speakers for these sessions include representatives from various local authorities such as East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Trafford Council, Bradford Council, Mansfield Council, the Lake District National Park Authority, Medway Council, and The Lake District National Park Authority. Architecture practice BPTW is also set to participate.
Edward Hobson, Director of Partnerships at the Design Council, stated that the webinars will offer participants unique insights from local authority Pathfinders and other key stakeholders as they reflect on their experiences in developing design codes. The sessions will be held between 14.00 and 15.30, with three webinars scheduled: one on the 8th, one on the 15th, and one on the 22nd of October.
Recordings of the webinars will be available on the Design Council website for those who cannot attend them live. For detailed descriptions or an exact schedule of the October 2024 webinars, visiting the Design Council’s official website or their event announcements directly is recommended.
Meanwhile, separate news articles discuss a new development in Darlington council aimed at reducing the housing waiting list and a £60m school blunder in Scotland due to a planning error. These developments highlight the ongoing efforts to improve urban planning and development in the UK. The Design Council's webinars are expected to contribute significantly to these efforts by providing valuable insights and best practices.
