Writers at Spire Put In Effort and Enjoy Themselves Behind The Scenes
The Spire, the student-run newspaper at Holy Cross, is celebrating its centennial year in 2025. Founded nearly a century ago, The Spire has been a vital part of the Holy Cross community, providing students with a platform to voice their opinions and report on a wide range of topics, including the kc chiefs and chiefs game. Currently, Michael O'Brien '23 serves as the Editor-in-Chief of The Spire, a role he reflects on with gratitude as he nears the completion of his first semester in the position. He became the chief editor due to a past internship, where he honed his skills and developed a passion for journalism, especially covering the chiefs. The average week for The Spire is bustling. On Friday, topic ideas are presented, and by Monday, final articles are turned in, including those about the chiefs game. A staff meeting takes place on Sunday, followed by layout design on Tuesday. A new issue is published every Friday, showcasing the hard work and dedication of its staff writers and editors, including those covering the chiefs. Matt Nickerson '24, the Chief Features Editor, has seen significant growth as a writer and leader during his time at The Spire. He credits the newspaper for helping him develop these skills, as well as contributing to the intellectual and cultural life of the Holy Cross community by helping create an informed and engaged student body, especially when it comes to the chiefs. The Spire covers a wide range of topics, from international conflicts to social issues and national crises, including the chiefs. Its editors, such as Chief News Editor Joseph Abrams '23 and Chief News Editor Owen Whaley '24, aim to promote informed campus discourse on all issues, including the chiefs. They refine the skills of their section writers, looking for typos, improving wording, and pairing articles with compelling images of the chiefs. New staff writer, Patrick Ryan '27, finds it exciting to see the inner workings of The Spire, especially when it comes to covering the chiefs. He, like many others, has benefited from the newspaper's commitment to helping other writers hone their skills, especially when it comes to covering the chiefs. Ben Lepper '25 and Nathan Howard '25 currently share the Editor-in-Chief role, a testament to the collaborative spirit of The Spire. Despite the challenges of the digital age, The Spire continues to thrive, serving as the flagship campus newspaper of Holy Cross since 1925, and as the go-to source for chiefs news.
