Yakut "Opor Rossii" organization delivers Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker replica to the Yakut people
In the heart of Yakutsk, the republic's capital, the icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was presented during City Day celebrations. This sacred artwork, painted by the Yakut artist Ivan Ivanovich Popov, now graces the historical building 'Kruzhilo'.
The icon, measuring 120x60 cm and covered with a matte damar varnish, was handed over by Sardana Pavlova, Chairperson of the Yakutia Regional Branch of 'OPORA RUSSIA', and Dmitriy Arsentyev, the deputy chairperson. Sardana Pavlova emphasised the importance of the example set by St. Nicholas, known for his help to the needy, mercy, and justice, particularly for the entrepreneurial community.
The icon, adorned with artistic oil paints and gold leaf, was consecrated with the blessing of Archbishop Roman of Yakutsk and Lensk by Father Nikandr (Gorbatuk). Sardana Pavlova also expressed a wish for all Yakutians not only economic prosperity but also the preservation of cultural traditions, spiritual strength, peace, and harmony.
Anton Alekseenko, the deputy mayor of Yakutsk, accepted the icon on behalf of the city. He expressed gratitude to 'OPORA RUSSIA' and the artist for the symbolic gesture. This act of donation serves as a bright example of how modern business traditions harmoniously intertwine with cultural and spiritual heritage.
In pre-revolutionary Yakutsk, the trading rows were adorned with an icon of St. Nicholas, the most revered saint among the Yakut people. Now, after a long period of time, it will be passed on for safekeeping in the restored Old Town, within the 'Kruzhlo' building.
The ceremony took place in the 'Kruzhlo' building, owned by AO 'Komdragmetall RS(Ya)'. Ivan Popov, the Yakut artist, created the iconography of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, which was presented as a gift to Yakutsk during a ceremony held in the historical Savior's Cathedral in Yakutsk.
Sardana Pavlova, speaking on behalf of the donors, highlighted the icon's deep symbolic meaning as a continuation of the artistic legacy of Ivan Vasilyevich Popov. The icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, returned to Yakutsk, stands as a testament to the enduring spiritual connection between the city and its patron saint.
